I can tell you that yes, it is a pricey car when things break. It did cost $40k when new, but if you search for one that wasn't raped by it's previous owner it's not that big of a deal at all. Plus, if you are willing / wanting to learn how to work on cars, you'll be doing the labor yourself and learn a wealth of information. 7.5 years after taking ownership I know every part of my Z including the insides of the diff, tranny, and engine, can tear my interior to nothing in a few hours, and change any suspension part or wheel bearing or clutch like it's no big deal. I for one have thoroughly enjoyed the adventure, and would recommend it to anyone else who wants a great car for the money, can appreciate what they have, and are willing to learn.
